Stuart Rushton
Educational Administrator and IT Strategist
Following his first career as a RAAF pilot (1964 to 1984), Stuart has taught physics, maths and computing in Rudolf Steiner schools for the past 25 years. He has a deep interest in all aspects of technology in education.
Stuart's attraction to the GNU/Linux project came from his belief in community, his distrust of 'secret' proprietory technologies and his belief that human and human/machine languages should be 'open' - and especially so in school education.
Lorien Novalis School is a single-stream Pre-school to year 12 Rudolf Steiner School located at Dural in the Sydney Hills District.
Seven Years of Linux on Desktops - A School Community (Software) Story
Initiated by senior students in 2002, Lorien Novalis School's Linux on desktops strategy has been a great success. Our story won't be a template for everyone but we think there are some great lessons for students, teachers and parents in what we have achieved.
